ABOUT THE PROVINCE

The Southern Province is located in the southern part of Rwanda. It shares borders with the City of Kigali to the North, the Eastern Province to the east, the Western Province to the west, and the Republic of Burundi to the south. The province is composed of eight districts and 101 sectors. Its administrative headquarters is situated in Nyanza District, specifically in Busasamana Sector, Nyanza Cell.

PROVINCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Province has the following responsibilities:

To supervise and advise Districts on the implementation of Government programs
To carry out advocacy for Districts
To advise Districts on development activities
To oversee Activities designed to maintain the Safety of persons and property.

Mrs Alice Kayitesi has been the Governor of the Southern Province since July 14, 2020. The Governor represents the Government of Rwanda in the Province and is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Province’s duties. In her daily work, she is assisted by the Executive Secretary of the Province.
