REMEMBERING IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY “GOVERNOR MURESHYANKWANO

This was part of the speech given by Hon Governor Mme Mureshyankwano Marie Rose, during the commemoration of former Gitarama, Butare and Gikongoro prefectures staff, who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the tutsis, an occasion which has taken place at the Southern Province Headquarters This Wednesday 28th of June 2017, headed by Hon Governor and several other guests, including the bereaved families.

In various speeches, testimonies and poems, speakers have put their emphasis, on the courage and spirit of heroism which chacterized the departed staff, appealing to all of the people present to keep the good legacy of unity, love and patriotism left by the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the tutsis, especially the killed staff.

Ibuka President Prof Jean Pierre Dusingizemungu underlined, in his speech, the quality of a good leader, saying that he should be protective, defending over his staff, that a leader must treat his staff equally, and the leaders before Genocide had ignored these values and promoted ethnic divisions and regionalism, which lead to the Genocide against the Tutsis.

Also during this occasion, participants took time to remember and in silence listened to the names of the victims which were being read, and paid respect to their great works.

The guest of Honor, Honorable Governor, Mme Marie Rose Mureshyankwano, expressed her gratitude for all who have come to give comfort to the Southern Province, as it celebrates the lives of its staffs whose breathes were cut short, telling them t is a good culture that we should all keep.

She said,”even in our culture, when a family has lost a member, we all pay a visit and give comfort and solace to the bereaved family, kindly keep that spirit and we are grateful” she added.

She again did thank RDF, former RPA force, who sacrificed their lives, and some decided to leave their comfort zone to save Rwandans who were being brutally killed, and restored peace, unity and reconciliation with no vengeance.

She said that remembering the victims of those atrocities is everyone’s responsibility, and we shall do it as long as we still breathing, thanking also good leadership, topped by H.E Paul Kagame which gives us all equal opportunity with no discrimination, she finally has appealed to all present, to pay no mind to any sort of division.

Southern province annually remembers the staff of the former Butare, Gikongoro and Gitarama who was killed during the 1994 Genocide against the tutsis and who were working in different departments of the above said prefectures.
