MEDIA, POLICE AND SOUTHERN PROVINCE AGREE TO KEEP WORKING CLOSELY

This was one among the resolutions of the media symposium, which gathered the Police, Media and the Southern Province, which intended to harmonize framework for the interest of the general public and the country at large, an interactive session which has taken place at the Southern Province headquarters this Friday the 07th of July 2017. In her welcome note, Honorable Governor insisted on the role of the media in the development of the country and its role in promoting accountability policy that Rwanda has chosen, saying that the media is not an institution apart, but a partnering organ towards sustainable development, she therefore, expressed her deep thanks to its contribution. In the presentation made by the Rwanda Media Commission, by its Executive secretary Mr Emmanuel Mugisha, has emphasized on Media ethics and professionalism, saying that although the Rwandan Media sector is still growing, but  all basic needs for it to grow have been put in place, and it’s up to the media to follow and work accordingly. Also the national police spokesperson, ACP Theos Badege, has come to the background and the framework which used to characterize the Police and the Media, where both sides used to see each other as antagonistic parties, but with times and dialogues, the cooperation has tremendously improved and they are now friendly and partners. Media houses which attended, also were given a platform to express their needs and give their inputs in framework harmonization of these institutions, (Police, Media and Southern Province), they were all happy for such productive interactive sessions, but also agreed that although they had been some sort of resistance ti giving information but things are changing and they also hope for better future. They also expressed their need, that such sessions should be summoned more often because they are so productive, because each side look at itself and self-evaluate, to correct what had been going wrong and what to improve. The symposium was closed by a vote of thanks by Honorable the Governor, asking the media to be more professional, and pledging to always be cooperative with the media. The symposium was attended by various media houses, District DASSO coordinators, Rwandan Police, Mayors, and Southern Province leaders.
