Minister Dominique Habimana at #NyanzaTwataramye: Umuganura as a Source of Unity and Self‑Reliance

On the evening of 7 July 2026, Minister Dominique Habimana, joined by Governor Alice Kayitesi and local leaders, stood with the people of Nyanza District at the 12th annual #NyanzaTwataramye celebration, held to mark Umuganura and to preserve Rwandan cultural heritage. The event brought the community together in joy and provided a platform to showcase development achievements through traditional dance, music and other cultural expressions rooted in local customs.

In his remarks, Minister Habimana wished all Rwandans a blessed Umuganura and emphasized that the festival is a wellspring of unity and a foundation for self‑reliance. He said Umuganura encourages a love of work, self‑respect and the promotion of core Rwandan cultural values — including unity, mutual support, integrity and patriotism. According to the Minister, the celebration helps citizens reflect on their cultural legacy and reinforces the role of culture as a pillar for sustainable development.

Minister Habimana described #NyanzaTwataramye as an important forum for celebrating community progress, fostering healthy competition in development activities, and safeguarding the nation’s cultural inheritance. He used the occasion to call for a concerted effort to combat laziness, drug abuse and other harmful behaviors that hinder youth development, and urged parents to instill good values in their children — such as courtesy, honesty and love of country — stressing that raising responsible citizens begins at home and within the wider community.

Reiterating that Rwandan culture does not condone the consumption of alcohol or drugs, the Minister appealed to residents to join the fight against substandard and illicit alcoholic beverages by reporting those who produce or hide them. He thanked everyone who attended the concert and all Rwandans who celebrated Umuganura across the country, affirming that events like #NyanzaTwataramye play a vital role in preserving culture and strengthening national unity.
